Philip G. Decker, President and Owner

For nearly thirty years I have dedicated my life to helping people who have life limiting illnesses. After spending those earliest years in Luzerne County, I was fortunate to spend almost two decades working for the largest hospice in the United States, in southern Florida. But my roots: my family, my friends, the good people of Northeastern Pennsylvania kept ‘tugging at my sleeve’ to return. And in 1993, with my own ideas of how to provide quality hospice services and with the support of my family and friends, I opened Hospice Community Care.

Teddy Roosevelt once said, “the greatest prize in life…is to work hard at work worth doing”. Since 1993 the men and women who have given this agency its legacy have worked hard at no worthier work on earth and I could not be prouder.

Our goal is to provide the finest quality services to patients. We pride ourselves on being available and responsive when our patients and their loved ones need us. And many times, after our offices close for the day or on a weekend, it may be me who receives that initial call. This is one way that Hospice Community Care is different than many other agencies. Everyone, from administration, chaplains, and social workers assist our nurses and aides in attending to the needs of our patients, whenever that need arises. We require our business affiliates, who assist us with equipment, medications and transportation, to share our commitment of responsiveness and availability.

We have a trademark phrase at Hospice Community Care. You will see it on many of our forms and brochures. It is simply…’Compassion for life’. We strongly believe in that. Many people ask, ‘how do you do what you do?’ The short answer is, ‘it IS about LIFE’!

I invite you to browse our site to learn more about hospice services – in one’s home, in our inpatient units and in nursing homes. We serve patients throughout Northeastern Pennsylvania, primarily in Luzerne, Lackawanna and Wyoming counties.

There are many choices for hospice care in our area; a lot more than when I first opened this agency. I believe that the dedicated staff of Hospice Community Care does it best. We would be honored to care for you and your loved ones when the need arises.

Sincerely,
Philip G. Decker
